Can an opportunity charge be declared against an uncontrolled charge? If so, can the unformed cavalry turn to face the flank, if indeed unformed troops have a flank? Can these cavalry countercharge (they are unformed but were going to charge another target in any case)?

A,
Yes they can be "opportunity charged"!
A uncontrolled charge is subject to the same conditions as a normal charge.
And you are right - as they are unformed they will have to face this new threat at the halt, though they can manouvre/turn to face.
Unformed troops, although in disorder, still maintain their basic formation.

Sorry, just to be absolutely clear, an unformed unit can also have a negative modifyer for being contacted in the flank.
When an unformed unit reforms, do they maintin their origional facing? |

Hi Anthony,
I would say that an unformed unit reforms with the front facing the last direction it faced prior to becoming unformed. The basis for this is that any alternative would either be random, or could be exposed to the risk of gamey behaviour by unscrupulous opponents (or yourself ).
And yes, I would submit that an unformed unit can be taken in the flank. The fronts v flanks issue in this case is less about the direction of command orientation or travel, and more about the ability of the unit to bring firepower to bear in a coordinated fashion.
That's my stab. Have not ahd a lot of this come up in our games, so it's mostly poorly informed speculation on my part. _________________ Cheers,
