Team,
apologies in advance if this is a dim question:
Once a brigade skirmisher screen has been deployed, and casualties suffered, how do you determine which parent battalion wears the losses once the screen is recalled?
We have played this in few ways over the past few years, and I am curious as to how others do it. _________________ Cheers,

B,
The site seems unusually quiet, perhaps the recession is making us all too glum to reply!
As no one else has replied, I will, although with limited experience.
The only method I have used is, I am sure, what you have done yourself; split the casualties evenly and randomly assign the extra casualties by dice.
I hope this answer isn't too feeble .
In return, could you answer my supplementary question in the uncontrolled charges thread.
Cheers,
Anthony |

Anthony,
thank you for the reply. I confess to wondering if I should be feeling a bit snubbed, but have been too busy to worry too much. As you say, perhaps folk are too outraged by the rorting of expenses by their local member.
Most commonly we do not record casualties against the skirmish screen as separate unit. Instead we attribute the casualties directly to the parent unit on the basis that they would "feed forward" reinforcements as required t maintain the screen. As to which unit, we usually take them off the battalion closest in proximity to the firing unit, that has contributed to the screen. Perhaps an oversimplification, hence we are seeking others responses. _________________ Cheers,

That's not a bad way of doing things. It certainly fits with how skirmishers were employed and reinforced.

B,
I won't tie yourself up with denoting individual skirmish casualties on brigade units.
Once recalled I would simply divide casualties as evenly as possible between all contributing units.

Thanks Dr Brown!
I admit that we have possibly not played skirmishers as the rules intended . Not maintaining a separate casualty roster, with a recount on the parent units is one factor. There may be others as the official inquiry may reveal.
But thank you for clarifying the approach. I've reviewed the relevant section, and we shall have some (new) aspects to incorporate. _________________ Cheers,
