Folks, there's a shedload of unpainted Old Glory 15mm Ottomans on ebay. These are hard to find in the UK at the moment because of the folding up of the old Battle Honours business. There are sufficient for several battalions of irregular infantry and Nizam e-Cedit. All of the troops could be used by proud owners of GdB Scenario Book IV - Against the Ottomans

Not in my sphere of interest; however, someone has uncovered a conflict that might provide another "Ottoman Scenario Book" (includes an army led by a de-frocked Highlander captured in 1807).

Mehmet Ali was instructed to return control of Mecca and Medina to Ottoman control. Fundamentalists 'Wahhabis' (though they disliked the term) had established a firm grip on Central Arabia with the assistance of the House of Saud.
M Ali used his Turco-Egyptian forces in a series of campaigns beginning in 1811, finally resulting in the sacking of the Saudi capital Al Dariyah by Ibrahim Pasha in 1819.
The explorer Burckhardt was in the Hijaz during the war and leaves an invaluable account of the arab tribes etc., as well as a British officer Cpt. Geo. Forster Sadlier, who in 1919 became the first european to traverse the Arabian Peninsula (reluctantly). He was tasked with establishing diplomatic contact with Ibrahim Pasha to help suppress Piracy in the Red Sea.
The War is also ably captured in the historical novel 'Blood and Sand' by Rosemary Sutcliff

Her erstwhile hero, Thomas Keith, was one of those intriguing historical characters caught out of place and time. He was a private in the 2nd Bttn. 78th Highlanders. Stranded in Egypt after being captured at Al Hamad in 1807, he converted to Islam. He rose through the ranks to become a Mamluk Bey and was paymaster for the 1811 expedition. He became the first Scot to be Governor of Medina. He died in 1815. His companion, Donald McLeod, was also a real character, who rose from Drummer/medical orderly to became head of the French Hospital in Cairo.

I did some extensive research on the campaign and the Egyptian expedition in 1807 in which they were involved many years ago. This has since become widely diffused among various Regimental accounts etc. on the internet. Mark Bevis's 'Tangier to Tehran' SOTCW 1994 was the first attempt to encompass all the unusual armies of the Napoleonic Middle East under one cover for the benefit of Wargamers.
If anyone is interested I could post a more detailed account of the Wahhabi revolt from a wargaming perspective on this Forum...
