As my sons seem to be more interested in WW2 than Napoleonics (I really tried, honest!), I have promised them that we will start a WW2 project.
BGPG seems like a good bet for rules but I was wondering about a couple of issues:
1. Do they work on a 1 model = 1 vehicle basis?
2. What time period does a move represent?
This project will be interesting as, to date, their sole experience of WW2 wargaming consists of shooting at cheap model tanks with an air rifle! Actually, I highly recommend it; it is great fun!

I'll get back to you as soon as I've read through my V2.0. Not that it changes from 1 to 2 bt I've not really read 1 properly so am not positive.
I think roughly it's 3 or 4 to one give or take.

C,
Didn't we all start off with WW2 before moving on to Naps, etc..??
I'm pretty certain I had every Airfix WW2 infantry set before I plunged into buying those yellow Naps chaps!!!
The BG-PG ratio is 1 figure represents 3-4 men and a model vehicle between 2-3 AFV's. However if, for ease of play, you wished to represent the models as one to one it really wouldn't make any difference, as long as you weren't too concerned about the organisation.
Time scale is very flexible; from 5 to 15 mins.
I'm not sure how old your boys are but I find my 9 year old copes perfectly well, all I do is ignore hidden deployment and defensive fire, (which brings it more in line with Warhammer 40K - his other rule set of choice!!)
Hope that helps.
DB
PS It’s best to lose the first few battles to keep their enthusiasm up!! |
