|

In the table at pag.44, the column "TO RALLY" show: 4 - 3: "Fall".
What does mean it?
In the paragraph "ROUT" you read: "Routers may only make one attempt to rally - if they fail then they disperse".
If so, the table should be: with 5 or 6 Rally. With 4 or less disperse.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks |

My understanding is that this is a typographical error, and 'Fall' should read "Fail". The reason is that both Routing and Retreating units roll dice on this table to 'Rally' during the Morale Phase. A Routed unit rallies on a modifed dice score of 5 or higher, and Disperses on anything else. A Retreating unit will Rally on a score of 5+, continue to Retreat on a 3-4 (e.g., 'Fail' to rally), or endure worse results on lower scores. _________________ Bryce Allen |

thank you Bryce...
I have another question:
While we are playing the scenario "Rear-guard at Quatre Bras, June 19th, 1815" we had a trouble about the rules.
The situation was than french lancers suffered the result of reteating in melee. In the next turn, after retreating in the compulsory moves, they was contacted in the charge phase, they passed the morale and in the melee phase, after all modifiers (+4 lancers, -6 retreating etc..) the result was: DRAW, the melee continue in the next turn.
In the rules, a unit WINNING a melee while retreating is rally but not pursue. If losing is dispersed.
What happen when DRAW?
We continued the melee next turn, both the units unformed with the lancers without -6 modifier for retreating, but I'm not sure that we are right.
ciao and sorry for my english... |

In the 2nd Edition of the Rules, see Charges, Charge Restrictions, 9, bottom of page 22: "Retreating or routing units that are charged test morale using the 'To Rally' column . . . If they achieve a rally then they are considered rallied and will enter melee, however they may not fire, and are classed as unformed."
In other words, you should have fought the melee with your Lancers 'unformed' (not 'Retreating'). More importantly, because they were unformed you could not counter charge--you could only 'stand' and receive the charge. Thus, in melee, the +4 Lancer bonus is not available to your unit (you can only use the +2 Light Cavalry modifier if not charging; see Note 1 on the table), and you would be -2 for Unformed (not -6 for Retreating).
Regardless of the overall melee modifers, on a Draw result in melee you maintain your current morale status, which for your Lancers should be 'Unformed'. _________________ Bryce Allen |
