Given the vulnerabilty of artillery to flank & sometimes even frontal attacks does anyone have any suggestions as to how best to protect artillery?I have in some games placed infantry behind artillery but if the gunners rout they might take the infantry with them.In the games I have played my artillery seems to be a magnet for enemy troops despite being placed some distance away from the front line.Being a low die roller by habit I place a company of infantry alongside artillery to at least have a chance at cutting down some assaulting troops.I would welcome any advice.
Thanks

I'm still trying to figre that one out too. In my experience gun batteries are pretty safe from frontal attacks, but not always. Single models are vulnerable, aas they lack the oomph to stop a unit of charging horse.

Well, if the canister doesn't stop the chargers, then the best you can do is have a unit of foot in reserve, and counter-charge the following turn. Of course, my Russian gunners never run, and if they don't do the job through canister, they're expected to die to a man...

Best Wishes,
